How we got Bailey

On December 7th, it will be three years since we got our Golden Doodle Bailey so I thought I’d share the story.

Never a Good Time

It was never a good time to have a dog. When I was in college, I was living in an apartment that did not allow pets and the dog would have to stay at my boyfriend's house (who later became fiancé and husband) and I usually only saw my boyfriend two or three times a week. Therefore at that point in my life it was not a good time for me to get a dog.

2016 - Boyfriend had become fiancé, I was completing my student teaching and preparing to graduate in December. Due to graduating in December I no longer had the college apartment because you had to lease apartments for a year and there was no point when I would be done half way through the year. I was living between my mom's house and with my fiancé. In other words, my living arrangements were not ideal to have a dog.

2017 - This year started off with me beginning my teaching career. We lived with my fiance's parents from December to July while our new home was being built. We moved into the new house in July, and were married in August. I was teaching during the day and working in a dress store in the evenings and most weekends. My husband is in construction and that year he was working a lot over time. Once again, it was not a good time in our lives to have a dog.

2019 - I was stable in my teaching career and no longer was working two jobs. I WANTED A DOG!!! My husband was not really in favor of the idea. In October, I went to the doctor because we had been trying to have a baby for the last 16 months and were unsuccessful. In November, I had to have emergency surgery because a cyst on my ovary erupted and there were three more cyst that the doctor decided to go in and remove. That’s when I was diagnosed with endometriosis. In between my surgery and post surgery visit. I had really been on the dog kick, my husband's father and brother were even getting on him to get me a dog, he still wasn’t on board. After my post surgery appointment, the doctor referred me to a fertility specialist and I had just hit the breaking point with the whole fertility and not being pregnant situation. One day out of the blue husband was like, let's get a dog. I really wanted a miniature Goldendoodle, and husbands exact words were “We are going to look around for a while to find a good one, we are not going to just go get one”. So the research began.

Everyone Meet Bailey

On December 7th, my husband and I were Christmas shopping in Robinson. We sat down for a nice lunch. I was emailing with a few breeders in Virginia and Tennessee about the Goldendoodles they were selling. There was a pet store close by, Pet Land, and we decided to go check it out, “just for fun” as my husband said. As we were looking at the puppies, I asked the sales lady to call us if they got a miniature Goldendoodle. Her response was, we just got one the other day. Would you like to hold her? The answer was an obvious YES!! We were sitting in the little dog playing area, and the sales lady handed the puppy to my husband. He was instantly in love, I will never forget the look on his face. He looked at me and said, “she’s cool” and he continued to make over her and then he looked at me and said, “well take her home today”. I went through the roof with excitement. We filled out the paperwork and got all the necessary items to bring home a puppy. I will never forget walking Bailey out to my husband's truck. I was holding onto her so tight because I was scared I would drop her and never be able to catch her.

Life With Bailey

Bailey is the best dog anyone could ask for. I would 10/10 recommend a Goldendoodle. She was so easy to house train, wouldn’t harm a soul and she really got me through some difficult times. She is also a great big sister. Bailey’s only downfall is that she loves my husband more than she likes me and I’m the one who wanted her in the first place!!!!

Fade Into You - L.A. Ferro Book Review

L. A. Ferro stole all my attention with her book Fade Into You. This is my second book I have read by this author and I was enthralled by the adventure she took her main character Mackenzie on. This book is full of suspense. There were a lot of characters who interacted with each other in many different ways. Each of them with their own skeletons, it was almost difficult to keep track. I thought I was going to have to make a character map. Over all, the way Ferro tied it all together was fascinating. The main characters Mackenzie and Connor did not choose each other, though really they did at the very beginning of the book, they didn’t have a choice in how their relationship began. Forced into an arranged marriage, to protect people who meant the world to them, the characters were determined to have an expiration date on their marriage. The walls they put up, slowly (very slowly) began to crumble as they fell in love. Both of them had secrets and needed answers. This book shows you how...

Salt by L.A. Ferro Book Review

BOOK REVIEW: Salt by L.A. Ferro will captivate all of your time. This was my first book I have read by this author and she did not disappoint. Salt is a fiction book that revolves around an age gapped romance. The main female character, Cameron Salt, went to live with her dad’s best friend Everett Callahan, when she was 17 years old, after the death of her parents. Her dad trusted his best friend to look out for her. Cameron always loved Everett. When she turned 22, Everett started looking at her differently, he struggled with his attraction for her and trying to do the right thing by his best friend. I absolutely loved this book. The characters and storyline felt so real to me. I couldn’t put the book down. I really connected with the character Cameron, because I also lost a parent at a young age. There were a lot of resonating moments for me, especially when she talks about moving on, allowing yourself to live life and be happy. I was inspired by how she kept her faith, stayed posi...

My First Time Doing Art Therapy

My First Time Doing Art Therapy Anytime Art Therapy was suggested to me, I automatically dismissed the idea of it because I am not artistic at all. I can barely draw stick figures. I tried it for the first time this week, I signed up for a five week inner child workshop using art therapy and my first class was amazing. The class was really relaxing and I felt so good when I left. During the first session we used watercolors to draw a childhood memory. We began the class with “calm, safe place guided meditation”. Lynette turned off the lights, told us to get comfortable and she guided us through the meditation. After meditation, we filled out a paper about a childhood memory, then we were encouraged to use the water colors to paint that memory. When I meditated I visualized myself outside, laying in the sun, at Tappan Lake. I tied my safe place to when I was a child and we use to go there and now how I go there with my family I had a lot of resonating moments during the class. Whe...
