My Thoughts on the New Year 2024

Reflecting on 2023

2023 was good to me. I set some pretty high goals for myself and I achieved them all. I published some academic research for my Masters Dissertation, on the Impact of Positive behavior Interventions and Supports on School Discipline. I passed my Administrative Praxis and got certified in Administration. My biggest accomplishment was receiving my Masters degree in Educational Leadership and Administration. I tried a new teaching placement, coteaching in the high school setting. I learned high school wasn’t for me and neither was coteaching. I had some leadership experience. I was able to plan and orchestrate homecoming 2023 for the high school. Which included the crowning of the king and queen, homecoming parade, homecoming halftime and the dance.

My favorite part of 2023, was my family bought a camper and we started going camping. We only got to go to Tappan Lake a few times but we really enjoyed it there. We met a lot of friends, who have children the same age as our daughter , and we carried this friendship out past camping season.

My Thoughts for the New Year

For this new year is that I want to be more present with my family and enjoy time with them. My daughter is turning three, and time has gone by so fast, I just want to focus on her and enjoy every second of it. I want to have my own classroom, enjoy teaching right now, and my classroom responsibilities.

I want to focus on the friend group I have now, and enjoy my time with them. I am content with leaving certain people in 2023 and not dwelling back on that.

I have a lot to look forward to in 2023. I am really excited for the camping trips we have planned, and planning more trips. I also get to be a bridesmaid in my cousins wedding in June. In August, we are going to the beach with my family for the first time since my dad has passed away in 2015.It’s going to be a lot of fun because my cousins have their own kids now and my daughter is going to have a blast.

Quote I am living by:

“A year ago, everything was different, And now that I look back, I realize, a year can do a lot to a person”

Book I am reading:

Stealing Home - Grace Reilly

2024 Goals:

  • Be more present
  • Focus on my mental health and wellness
  • Read 50 Books (including non-fiction)

Fade Into You - L.A. Ferro Book Review

L. A. Ferro stole all my attention with her book Fade Into You. This is my second book I have read by this author and I was enthralled by the adventure she took her main character Mackenzie on. This book is full of suspense. There were a lot of characters who interacted with each other in many different ways. Each of them with their own skeletons, it was almost difficult to keep track. I thought I was going to have to make a character map. Over all, the way Ferro tied it all together was fascinating. The main characters Mackenzie and Connor did not choose each other, though really they did at the very beginning of the book, they didn’t have a choice in how their relationship began. Forced into an arranged marriage, to protect people who meant the world to them, the characters were determined to have an expiration date on their marriage. The walls they put up, slowly (very slowly) began to crumble as they fell in love. Both of them had secrets and needed answers. This book shows you how...

Salt by L.A. Ferro Book Review

BOOK REVIEW: Salt by L.A. Ferro will captivate all of your time. This was my first book I have read by this author and she did not disappoint. Salt is a fiction book that revolves around an age gapped romance. The main female character, Cameron Salt, went to live with her dad’s best friend Everett Callahan, when she was 17 years old, after the death of her parents. Her dad trusted his best friend to look out for her. Cameron always loved Everett. When she turned 22, Everett started looking at her differently, he struggled with his attraction for her and trying to do the right thing by his best friend. I absolutely loved this book. The characters and storyline felt so real to me. I couldn’t put the book down. I really connected with the character Cameron, because I also lost a parent at a young age. There were a lot of resonating moments for me, especially when she talks about moving on, allowing yourself to live life and be happy. I was inspired by how she kept her faith, stayed posi...

My First Time Doing Art Therapy

My First Time Doing Art Therapy Anytime Art Therapy was suggested to me, I automatically dismissed the idea of it because I am not artistic at all. I can barely draw stick figures. I tried it for the first time this week, I signed up for a five week inner child workshop using art therapy and my first class was amazing. The class was really relaxing and I felt so good when I left. During the first session we used watercolors to draw a childhood memory. We began the class with “calm, safe place guided meditation”. Lynette turned off the lights, told us to get comfortable and she guided us through the meditation. After meditation, we filled out a paper about a childhood memory, then we were encouraged to use the water colors to paint that memory. When I meditated I visualized myself outside, laying in the sun, at Tappan Lake. I tied my safe place to when I was a child and we use to go there and now how I go there with my family I had a lot of resonating moments during the class. Whe...
