It’s no secret that winter is not my favorite season. I would much rather be lying in the sun on a beach and spending warm days at the lake. When the holidays are over, things settle down, reality starts back up as we begin our new year. Living in the Northern Panhandle of West Virginia, the cold winter months can last from January into March.
One thing I like about the winter, is my daughter’s birthday is in January. I enjoy party planning and trying to make it special. For her first birthday, the theme was Winter ONEderland. Last year was Minnie Mouse and this year we are doing Wild & Three!
Another thing I enjoy about the winter is having snow days. As a teacher, I do like to get my school days in so we don’t have to make them up at the end of the year. I like to start my summer break on time. However, a snow day doesn’t go unappreciated. At this point in my life, my snow days are spent with my daughter (who doesn’t let me sleep in). I feel like I get to have the best of both worlds, have the career & get to be a stay at home mom sometimes. On the last snow day. We made breakfast, cuddled in front of the fire place while watching tv, had lunch and played with play dough. It was a Friday which made it a three day weekend. In the afternoon, we bundled up and decided to venture out into the snow, I didn’t realize how much time it took to dress your child to go outside in the snow. While we were playing, my husband surprised us by coming home from work early and he joined us. We took a snow ride in the side-by-side. When my daughter passed out, I took a bath and did some self care focusing on my hair and skin.
